Knowing your Audience

As a writer it is very important to know who your audience is. Knowing your audience is the first thing you should find out when you write a paper because knowing your audience will determine if what you are writing or how you are writing will make since to whoever you are writing for. I always had a problem with papers because I did not know who I was writing it for. I wrote my papers as if I was just writing it to my instructor. My instructor would see that I have a good paper but to many different languages that would reflect on different audience. I never knew what the teacher was talking about when they told me to indentify who I was writing the paper to. I thought they were talking as if I was writing it to one of my fellow class mates and to pick one. I learned recently how difficult it is when you write a paper and it is not meant for you it is harder to understand. I was in the ICC studio where I had my paper read. One and Done was the title it’s about college basketball rule, the instructor that read it liked the paper but wasn’t in love with the title because stated who would know about one and done unless I elaborated on it. I told my papers audience was college basketball fans that want to see the rule change she instantly knew what I was going for and said my paper made more since know because it wasn’t for people that are not in to sports.

  1. Excellent blog, Jamaal. The audience might be the most important part of that triangle we talk about in class.
